They are coins where one side has been smoothed down and then hand engraved

Behind her sits a temple, symbolizing strength. The painting is surrounded by pearls, symbolizing tears. The orange trees sunset in the background make this an especially rare example. This navette shaped mourning locket hails from about 1780 1790. The tree and ground cover are enhanced with crushed hair from
